  • Pastoral Care

How do we support the wellbeing of every pupil?

At the Children's Support Service, we place the wellbeing of every pupil at the heart of everything we do. Our pastoral support is designed to ensure that all young people feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

We recognise that emotional wellbeing, attendance, and engagement are key to successful outcomes. Our dedicated Engagement and Behaviour Mentors alongside the School Counsellors, work closely with pupils, families, and external agencies to provide personalised support that meets each individual's needs.

What does our pastoral care include?
    • Strong, trusting relationships between staff and pupils, ensuring every student has a key adult for support
    • Targeted emotional and wellbeing support, including mentoring and intervention for pupils experiencing difficulties
    • Safeguarding at the core of our practice, with clear systems to ensure all pupils are protected and supported
    • Support for attendance and engagement, helping pupils build positive routines and re-engage with education
    • Close partnership with families, maintaining regular communication and working collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes

We adopt a proactive and nurturing approach, helping pupils to develop resilience, confidence, and the skills they need to be successful both in school and beyond.

    SEND support and SEND information

How do we support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities?

At the Children's Support Service, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils, regardless of need, are able to access a high-quality education and achieve their full potential. We provide inclusive, personalised support in line with the SEND Code of Practice.

Our approach follows a graduated response, where needs are carefully identified, planned for, supported, and regularly reviewed. We work closely with pupils, families, and external professionals to ensure that support is effective and tailored to each individual.

What does our SEND provision include?
    • High-quality teaching with appropriate adaptations to meet a wide range of needs
    • Targeted interventions and support for pupils with additional needs across communication, cognition, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH), and physical/sensory areas
    • Clear Assess–Plan–Do–Review cycles, ensuring progress is closely monitored and provision adjusted where needed
    • Close partnership with families, with regular communication and involvement in decision-making
    • Multi-agency working, involving external specialists where appropriate to provide holistic support

We aim to promote independence, confidence, and resilience, enabling pupils to make progress academically, socially, and emotionally.
