    SENCO (Assistant Headteacher) -Anya Jenkyns

    A qualified SENCO is empowered, through their leadership status within the school, to lead whole-school improvement for pupils with SEND. 

    Anya's responsibilities include:

    • Strategic leadership of SEND provision across CSS
    • Designated teacher for looked after children
    • Ensuring the published SEN information report is easily accessible and accurately describes the school's provision and support for pupils with SEND
    • Identifying pupils' emerging or changing needs quickly and accurately
    • Ensuring support is effective and drawing on specialist advice when necessary
    • Using the 'graduated approach' (a continuous cycle of 'assess, plan, do and review')
    • Monitoring the progress of pupils with SEND and reviewing adaptations and support systematically
    • Supporting successful transitions for pupils with SEND
    • Working with the local area partnership's strategy to improve experiences and outcomes for pupils with SEND
    • Ensuring staff receive suitable training and support
    Deputy SENCO – from July 2026

    Our Deputy SENCO supports the SENCO across primary and secondary in:

    • Co-ordinating SEND provision across both campuses
    • Supporting the implementation of the graduated approach
    • Working with Assistant SENCOs to ensure consistency of provision
    • Deputising for the SENCO when required
    • Contributing to whole-school SEND strategy and development
    • Providing outreach support to local schools where students are at risk of permanent exclusion
    Assistant SENCO - Maria Lane (Secondary - Fairview)

    Maria leads SEND provision at CSS Fairview by:

    • Co-ordinating day-to-day SEND support at the Fairview campus
    • Working with teaching staff to implement effective interventions
    • Liaising with families and external agencies
    • Monitoring progress of pupils with SEND at Fairview
    • Supporting the HLTA and teaching assistants at Fairview
    Assistant SENCO - Carol Kennedy (Secondary - Wickford)

    Carol leads SEND provision at CSS Wickford by:

    • Co-ordinating day-to-day SEND support at the Wickford campus
    • Working with teaching staff to implement effective interventions
    • Liaising with families and external agencies
    • Monitoring progress of pupils with SEND at Wickford
    • Supporting the HLTA and teaching assistants at Wickford
    • Working with Carolyn Hainsby to ensure continuity between primary and secondary provision
    HLTA - Jolene Austin (Secondary - Fairview)

    Jolene provides specialist support by:

    • Delivering targeted interventions for pupils with SEND
    • Supporting teaching staff with adaptive teaching strategies
    • Working under the guidance of the Assistant SENCO and SENCO
    • Monitoring pupil progress and adjusting interventions as needed
    HLTA - Trevor Emberson (Secondary - Wickford)

    Trevor provides specialist support by:

    • Delivering targeted interventions for pupils with SEND
    • Supporting teaching staff with adaptive teaching strategies
    • Working under the guidance of the Assistant SENCO and SENCO
    • Monitoring pupil progress and adjusting interventions as needed
    Teaching Assistants

    Our teaching assistants play a vital role by:

    • Supporting pupils with SEND in lessons
    • Delivering structured interventions under the guidance of teachers and the SENCO
    • Building positive relationships with pupils
    • Monitoring and recording pupil progress
    • Working collaboratively with teaching staff to meet individual needs
    Engagement Mentors

    Our Engagement Mentors provide:

    • Targeted pastoral support for pupils with SEND
    • Support for attendance and engagement
    • Trusted relationships with pupils and families
    • Help to remove barriers to learning
    School Counsellors

    Our School Counsellors offer:

    • Specialist emotional and mental health support
    • Therapeutic interventions for pupils experiencing difficulties
    • Support for pupils' social and emotional development
    Designated Safeguarding Team (Led by Emily Valentine)

    The safeguarding team ensures:

    • All pupils with SEND are protected and supported
    • Close collaboration with the SENCO to support vulnerable pupils
    • Effective liaison with external safeguarding agencies
    • Safeguarding is at the core of SEND provision
    External Specialists

    We work with a range of external specialists including:

    • Educational psychologists
    • Speech and language therapists
    • Occupational therapists
    • Health and social care professionals
    • Local authority SEND services
    • Virtual school heads (for looked-after children)
    How our SEND team works together

    We embed a culture in which early and accurate assessment of pupils' needs is prioritised, and use the information from the assessment of pupils' needs to implement a continuous cycle of planning, actions and review in order to reduce barriers to pupils' learning and/or wellbeing. 

    Our SEND team:

    • Works collaboratively across both campuses to ensure consistency
    • Meets regularly to review pupil progress and adjust provision
    • Provides training and support for all teaching staff
    • Maintains close partnerships with families and external agencies
