How do we support young carers?
At the Children's Support Service, we recognise that some pupils may have additional responsibilities at home, including caring for a family member. We are committed to identifying and supporting young carers to ensure they can fully access education and achieve their potential.
We understand that caring responsibilities can impact a pupil's wellbeing, attendance, and engagement. Our staff work sensitively and proactively to provide appropriate support and reduce barriers to learning.
What does our young carer support include?
- Early identification and understanding of need, ensuring pupils feel safe to share their experiences
- A key adult for support, offering regular check-ins and a trusted point of contact
- Flexible, personalised support, including adjustments to routines, workload, or attendance where appropriate
- Emotional wellbeing support, helping pupils manage stress, anxiety, and responsibility
- Partnership with families and external agencies, including specialist young carer services where needed
We aim to ensure that all young carers feel valued, supported, and able to succeed both in school and in their wider lives.
