Remote Education

Medical Education Teams (METs)

The Medical Education Teams (METs) work in South and West Essex with students from Reception to Year 11 who are unable to attend school due to medical reasons. We support young people who encounter difficulties that interrupt their schooling and help them return with individual reintegration programmes.

In all cases, remote education will be time-limited and is agreed with the Local Authority who commission our places.

What does our medical education offer include?

Online core subjects

  • Small group teaching in core subjects
  • Interactive lessons delivered by qualified teachers
  • Regular timetabled sessions for structure and consistency

Online reintegration work

  • Small group sessions building confidence and readiness to return to school
  • Opportunities to connect with other students
  • Guided activities to reduce anxiety about returning to the classroom

1:1 reintegration work in school and the local community

  • Personalised support to ease the transition back into school
  • Gradual reintegration at a pace that suits your child
  • Direct support in the school environment when ready
How does it work?

Personal tutor support
Every student is allocated a personal tutor who will support and guide them throughout their time with METs, act as the main point of contact for families, and coordinate the reintegration process.

Short-term intervention (12 weeks)
Students follow a personalised timetable. We conduct a mid-way review to assess progress, determine next steps, and plan for the transition back to school.

What can you expect?

Before starting: Initial meeting with your child's personal tutor, information about accessing online sessions, a personalised timetable, and clear communication about equipment needed.

During the programme: Regular online sessions, ongoing communication with your child's personal tutor, progress updates, a mid-way review meeting, and technical support.

Preparing for return: Gradual reintegration planning, 1:1 support in school when appropriate, collaboration with your child's school, and continued support until settled.

How can you support at home?
  • Ensure your child has a quiet space for online learning
  • Support your child to follow their timetable
  • Encourage engagement with their personal tutor
  • Communicate any concerns or changes promptly
  • Attend review meetings and appointments

Technical requirements: Device with internet access, quiet space for learning, headphones (recommended).

If you don't have access to the technical requirements at home, please get in touch with us and we can support you.

Centre-Based Students

For students registered at one of our centres, we provide remote education when they cannot attend which could be for a number of reasons to ensure continuity of education.

Remote education is always agreed with the Local Authority, is needs-led, and time-limited.

What does our remote education offer include?

Core subject teaching

  • Online lessons in English and maths
  • Small group or 1:1 sessions as appropriate
  • Bespoke curriculum offer
  • Regular timetabled sessions

Reintegration support
Our reintegration support team (made up of Engagement Mentors and your child's personal tutor or class teacher) provides:

  • Enrichment activities to support wellbeing and engagement
  • Personal, social and health education (PSHE)
  • Creative and practical learning opportunities
  • Activities that develop life skills and confidence
  • Support to maintain connections with peers and staff
How does it work?

When your child learns remotely, they will:

  • Follow a timetable-based schedule
  • Access live online sessions
  • Receive work that builds on what they've been learning in the centre
  • Stay connected with the centre

Our blended approach combines: Academic learning through core subjects, wellbeing and personal development through the reintegration team, and regular check-ins with familiar staff.

What can you expect?

When remote learning is needed: Prompt communication about arrangements, a clear timetable, login details and technical support, and information about any work or resources needed.

During remote learning: Live teaching sessions delivered by familiar staff, a balance of academic learning and wellbeing activities, regular communication about engagement, flexibility to accommodate individual needs, and support to reintegrate back to centre-based learning.

How can you support at home?
  • Ensure your child has access to a device and internet connection
  • Support your child to follow their timetable
  • Provide a quiet space for online sessions where possible
  • Encourage participation in both core subjects and reintegration activities
  • Communicate with staff if your child is struggling to engage or if circumstances change
  • Let us know about any technical difficulties as soon as possible

Technical requirements: Device with internet access, quiet space for learning where possible, headphones (recommended).

If you don't have access to the technical requirements at home, please get in touch with us and we can support you.
